Understanding the purpose of a music video

I have been assigned to write a report about my understandings of a music video and also include references from my own knowledge. Also, this report will illustrate show my awareness
of how music videos are consumed by the audiences of nowadays.

Music videos have become very advanced over time and there are many different ways the audiences can consume them. For example, in the late 90s the audiences back them didn’t have a wide variety to access the music videos to the song. For example you could only access music videos from,T.V channels, while in the early 2000s people started to access music videos from T.V channels such as Vevo, and also the internet for example Youtube and DVDs.This has changed because technology had advanced over the past years so the artist can distribute their music videos easier to their audiences.

over the years music videos have increased within income for the record companies by them distributing the artist records by gaining revenue. For example if a video on Youtube has hit a certain variety of views then the channel artist will gain a generated revenue from the platform, if a video hits around 10,000 views on the video the artist, can consider to have money being generated. An example of this would be Lil Pump music video “Gucci Gang”. As of its recent release the music video was able to gain a huge count of, 824 million views on platforms such as YouTube. Furthermore the teaser for the music video, had 4 million views on the site. This would end up bringing Lil Pump and his record label a profit, of $12. in addition  the money would be split between the artist and the record label. Whereas Bruno Mars' song “Uptown Funk" has made about $840,000 in publishing revenue, so here's how much everyone involved has currently made off the song: Bhasker/Sony ATV: $142,800. Gallaspy/Sony ATV: $63,000. Ronson/Imagem: $142,800. Lil Pump promoted his music video on the platform instagram.

Music videos help to promote the artists song because it allows the audience to see the clear visuals, intertextuality and behind the lyrics. For example 'Despacito' is a Spanish song with some English words thrown around to engage more audiences around the world. The audiences would get a better understanding of what the song really defines if a music video is presented with the audio tracking. The artist would promote his video by posing it on all social medias such as Instagram and  Twitter, they would distribute the music video on YouTube which would  gain a vast amount of views because YouTube is a huge platform where many people go on to educate them self such as DIY or to gain escapism and entertainment. precisely 5.6 billion views alone 'Despacito' has gained withing the past years. The artist can advertise his music video by placing the music poster  of the music video on billboards and bus stop stands, which can grab the attention of different ranges of audiences who listen to the same genre of music as 'Despacito'.The artist 'Luis Fonsi' and his label chose to include 'Justin Bieber' within the song because they knew it would create a great synergy between them both and also 'Justin Bieber' is known for selling huge records in his career.

Synergy is shown in 'the weekend, Kendrick Lamar-pray for me' because the blockbuster film 'Black Panther' is shown through out the music videos. the company 'Marvel' created a film and then 'The Weekend' took inspiration and made a music video about it.you can clearly see that the setting of the music video is supposed to look like the setting of the place the film is set in. they used dark lighting to represent the main characters suit which is the 'Black Panther'. this method of synergy is used so that both companies can get a income from each others promotions. For example the audience who enjoyed the fim may want to watch music videos about the film they have enjoyed so much.
